Perhaps some of you knew this already from the squeal of joy which emanated from the vicinity of Minneapolis, Minnesota at the time, but one of my favorite anime of all time, The Rose of Versailles, was recently licensed by Nozomi Entertainment, in partnership with video-streaming service, Viki.com. As of October 13th, the first episode is now available.
I don't expect it to be the type of thing that everyone will fall in love with, but I love it to pieces and I'd encourage those of you with some free time to check it out.
Note: As of this posting, the subtitling job on the video is a little bit janky (text encoding errors and the like). This doesn't make it unwatchable, in my opinion.

At long last!
Given how much of this story's DNA is in subsequent manga and anime, it's great to see it available in an accessible format legally.
You can definitely see how "Utena", et al., took strong cues from this story, even in just the first episode.
I'm really happy that a whole new audience is going to be able to make that connection between those particular anime series' lineages. Also, the video is about a million times better than the cruddy fansubs I watched several years ago. I can't wait to get my hands on the DVDs.
Me, too! I can't wait to legally own this series in any form!
