Well, before I went to bed I decided to check through the Anime News Network Fall Preview Guide talkback thread, and it riled me up so much that I had to go rage on tumblr and now I can’t settle down. I’ll repost my rant here just because perhaps if I spread my anger around more places it will thin-out and I’ll be able to get to bed eventually. Please note that I use some pretty strong language (especially in comparison to my normal writing here), so beware.

Was reading the talkback thread for the Anime News Network Fall Preview Guide, and it turned into a whole string of rape apologia and bullshit reasoning (DURR HURR rape is a type of plant you get oil from so your point about rape culture is irrelevant LOL jus’ kickin’ it here being a total shitlord douchenozzle) and I got physically shaken by it all.
What the actual fuck. Just, ugh. The profound ignorance and lack of empathy revealed in that thread makes me fucking sick to my stomach. I’m not really someone who demands a 100% safe-space internet experience, but I can’t deal with this. I just can’t. I shouldn’t have to ignore every comment and discussion thread because of callous fuckwits arguing for the sake of terrible things.
What a charmed fucking life they must lead if they can just diminish people’s experiences like that and have a hearty “LOL” about it with their shitty cronies, yukkin’ it up about some anime where a dude jumps on a girl and pins her, kisses her against her will, ignores her personal boundaries and threatens to rape her.
“Aww, but he’s just not socialized and he really likes her and you’re making a mountain out of a molehill he really didn’t mean it LOL SHOUJO” AUGH.
