Hello, this is Jessi speaking to you from the recent past. By now I’ll be out-of-town on a vacation that’s been in the planning for almost a year. But in the meantime I thought I’d make a post about what you can expect from Season 1 Episode 1 in January.
The first order of business are seasonal first impressions. Unfortunately, I’ll have little access to watch new anime or update the site until January 10th, so those will be on a delay until after I get back to my computer to watch them and do write ups.
Beyond that, there are a couple of essays in the works that you can expect to see from me, hopefully within January but definitely as soon as I can complete them. Below are some tentative titles and short descriptions of the material.
Anime Club no Densetsu: Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman – Yes, I’m returning to my irregularly-posted series about my own misadventures as a long-time member of an anime club. This entry will be focused on a favorite OVA series of mine, Shinesman. While I have enough off-the-cuff knowledge to put this piece together as-is, I’m hoping to do a little more research about the series itself to help flesh it out a bit more.
Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song (review) – The title for this piece will probably end up being more interesting. I enjoyed Vivy, but also had some issues with some aspects of its plot, namely the treatment of women in general. I’ve been knocking this around in my mind for a while and hope to be able to solidify my thoughts sometimes soon.
Mixed Feelings on Controversial Material (tentative title) – This is one of those big ideas that’s been on my mind all year, primarily because of there being lots of anime that has good aspects in spite of some horrifically problematic story material. This has been in my drafts for a long time and I’ve only more recently come up with a decent example that I think helps make my point much more clearly.
I’ve got some other ideas bouncing around that might make their appearances earlier than these, but I’m hoping that putting these intentions out into the world might make them become reality more easily (we’ll see…). Anyway, I hope everyone is having a tolerable year so far, and I’ll hopefully be able to hit the ground running on the 10th!
