July 17th-23rd Week-in-Review

Good morning/afternoon, all. This past week has certainly been an exercise in dealing with stress, although I’m happy to say I think I’ve come out the other side feeling at least a little bit better than before.

Most of the stress had to do with a big audit at work – something that occurs annually but which requires a lot of preparations on top of our regular job responsibilities. The other bits and pieces arose from a situation in another organization I’m a part of, which mostly boiled down to a reorganization of responsibilities and nailing down those details. Nothing that can’t be dealt with, but also something I didn’t realize I’d have to deal with.

Unfortunately I didn’t end up watching the amount that I would have liked this week, and mainly spent my anime-watching time focusing on trying to finish up First Impressions. I didn’t get all the way finished, but I’m happy with where I am anyway. I think being able to give myself a little bit of grace in these situations has been really helpful and I’m not quite as concerned with the overall quantity of my writing anymore.

Below you’ll find links to the posts from the past week. Let me know if you’ve been watching anything enjoyable!

  • Summer 2022 First Impressions – Call of the Night – The more I’ve thought about this vampire series over the past week, the more interesting I find its premiere. It has a lot of cool visual style and I find the protagonist’s mental state to be compelling.
  • Summer 2022 First Impressions – Prima Doll – I watched this episode last Monday and it took me several days to feel up to writing anything about it. It doesn’t feel bad by any means, but it indulges in some character tropes that I just don’t care for.
  • Summer 2022 First Impressions – When Will Ayumu Make His Move? – Ayumu appears to have already made a few moves, which is what makes this episode so darned frustrating. Both of the main characters have basically already confessed their feelings to one-another, so why is there so much darned confusion?
  • Summer 2022 First Impressions – Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer – Definitely not the best visuals on display with this one, but the character writing and quirky premise really shine through. I’m a fan of the author’s other work and am happy at least his earlier cult classic is getting some further exposure.
